We're obviously getting into more general complaints about the nature of games here, so there's not much point in pursuing it further. This is especially true when a sequel entirely abandons the game world established in its predecessor: Unless there's some good reason that the character isn't aware of what's happened previously, then it's not something that should have to be "learned" over the course of the game. When I'm playing a game - any game - as a specific character, then I should have a basic understanding of that character and the world he inhabits right from the start.
